Utilizing herbs and herbal teas to work with our bodies and with the seasons elevates our integration with the Earth a step further. Keeping a rotation of seasonal teas in your cabinet may leave you feeling regulated, tuned in, and connected to the world around you. Here are our Winter suggestions:
Cinnamon:
The warming energetic properties of cinnamon tie in beautifully with our desire to stay warm inside and out in the winter, with a touch of sweetness. Cinnamon directly supports the kidneys and fluid regulation, as well as having a bonus strength of stabilizing blood sugar. This prevents un-necessary spikes in cortisol and can aid in appetite regulation and insulin sensitivity (all good things). Think sprinkling cinnamon into stew, atop roasted rot vegetables, or brewing a loose-leaf chai these next few months.
Orange Peel:
Potentially the most overlooked, yet beneficial part of the fruit! While citrus fruits are in season this winter, don’t throw out their peels (at least compost them)! Instead, dry and use them to brew an orange citrus tea. We’ll find that orange peels support digestive motion, and can dissolve “spiritual weight” by supporting the kidney Qi.
Nettle Leaf:
One of my favorite adrenal, liver, and hormonal supports to utilize with clients. Nettle is gentle in strength and flavor, but continued use soothes and brings strength where needed through its blood-building and life-giving qualities. Nettle actually contains several vitamins and minerals to be extracted and enjoyed. Nettle is actually covered in tiny, prickly stinging hairs. In some ways it inspires us to put ourselves first and practice healthy boundaries.
